The Spiritbreaker’s two passive skills supplement this combo. Empowering Haste is a aura which significantly boosts the movement speed of the Spiritbreaker and nearby allies, as well as providing him with a damage bonus based on his movement speed. Greater Bash is partly what makes the Spiritbreaker so feared by lone enemies. Upon connecting a Greater Bash, the Spiritbreaker deals extra damage and knocks the target back, stunning and disabling them completely. With Charge of Darkness, Greater Bash, and Netherstrike, hapless targets of the Spiritbreaker’s attention are often dead before they can so much as lift a finger in retaliation.
Barathrum The Spirit Breaker background story. An outcast of the Spirithoof clan, Barathrum retreated in shame to the Ethereal Plane, feeding off wandering souls to sustain himself, and wandered aimlessly for centuries, alone and miserable. Found and recruited by the Lich King, Barathrum’s uncanny speed and wraithlike powers have now been unleashed upon the Material Plane, his lantern able to project nether energy into enemies, sending them backwards with sudden force. With the ability to close the distance between himself and a target in seconds, Barathrum the Spiritbreaker is more than a match for anyone.

Barathrum The Spirit Breaker Abilities Build
1. Charge of Darkness (Hotkey: C)
Barathrum fixes his sight on an enemy and starts charging through all objects. Upon leaving the shadows, Barathrum shocks his opponent into an immobile state for some time.
Level 1 – Charge at 425 ms then stuns for 1.2 seconds.
Level 2 – Charge at 500 ms then stuns for 1.6 seconds.
Level 3 – Charge at 575 ms then stuns for 2.0 seconds.
Level 4 – Charge at 650 ms then stuns for 2.4 seconds.
- Target will become aware of the charge (a buff is visible in the status bar) when Barathrum is within 3000 distance.
- Barathrum will run through units and trees.
- Allies of Barathrum (and himself) will see an animation over the head of the target.
- Any unit you pass through (250 AoE) will proc a Greater Bash of your current level (nothing will happen if you didn’t skill it)
- The charge stops if you click anywhere, or if you are disabled.
- Barathrum gains shared vision of the target for the duration.
- If the target dies, the charge is transferred to the nearest valid target.

2. Empowering Haste (Hotkey: H)
His presence increases the movement speed of nearby allied units.
Level 1 – Increases movement speed by 6% and damage by 4% of his movement speed.
Level 2 – Increases movement speed by 8% and damage by 8% of his movement speed.
Level 3 – Increases movement speed by 10% and damage by 12% of his movement speed.
Level 4 – Increases movement speed by 12% and damage by 16% of his movement speed.
- The bonus damage is added to Barathrum’s ordinary attack damage.

3. Greater Bash (Hotkey: T)
Gives a 17% chance to bash enemies across the ground, doing more initial damage and damage as they skid.
Level 1 – Deals 25 damage, 140 knockback distance, lasts 0.95 seconds.
Level 2 – Deals 50 damage, 180 knockback distance, lasts 1.15 seconds.
Level 3 – Deals 75 damage, 220 knockback distance, lasts 1.35 seconds.
Level 4 – Deals 100 damage, 260 knockback distance lasts 1.55 seconds.
- Damage type: magical
- Greater Bash is triggered everytime Spiritbreaker initiates an attack, so it is not necessary to land the attack in order for Greater Bash to work.

4. Nether Strike (HOtkey: E)
Moves you next to your target doing extra damage. Performs a greater bash hit. Casting range improves per level.
Level 1 – Moves Barathrum next to the target, deals 100 damage.
Level 2 – Moves Barathrum next to the target, deals 200 damage.
Level 3 – Moves Barathrum next to the target, deals 300 damage.

- Damage type: magical
- Barathrum will move to the other side of the target seen from the point he casted it.
- Performs a Greater Bash of your current level upon arrival (no bash will happen if you didn’t skill it).
- Teleportation and damage is delayed 1 second while Barathrum is fading out, Barathrum is magic immune for this time period.
- Casting Range: 400/550/700 (550/700/850*)
- Aghanim’s Scepter dramatically reduces cooldown and improves casting range. It also causes enemies around the primary target to also be bashed upon teleporting.

This is the balanced skill build and it fits in almost any roles. We need to level up Empowering Haste first for easy last-hitting when it comes to farming in the lane, then followed by one level of Charge of Darkness for ganking and then we level up your Empowering Haste for more damage, next we level up your Greater Bash for your ultimate. We then maximize Charge and Haste then followed by your bash then finally maximize Nether Strike to level 3.

Explanation of Item Build:
1. Hand of Midas is a great item for the Spiritbreaker, and he meets all the requirements described in the Hand of Midas section of this guide (to read the Hand of Midas section, hit Ctrl+F and search for “* HoM” Take out the space between * and HoM). I will now go into further detail on how these requirements apply to the Spiritbreaker:
A ) The Spiritbreaker is not an early game dominance Hero. Though his Charge of Darkness + Nether Strike makes for a nasty combo, due to the high cooldown on both spells, the Spiritbreaker is still your typical late game Strength Hero (not a hunter like Night Stalker or a caster like Dragon Knight). He isn’t in a rush for any one item in particular, but rather needs to build up a couple of items before his true power is felt. As such, he can afford the minor speed bump of Hand of Midas.
B ) The Spiritbreaker benefits significantly from the increased attack speed offered by Hand of Midas. With his passive Bash ability and high damage from Empowering Haste, increased attack speed items are the best choice for improving the Spiritbreaker’s damage per second early in the game.
C ) The Spiritbreaker’s mana will not be strained by the 75 mana requirement every 100 seconds. Though it is true that the Spiritbreaker’s combo is rather expensive (120 for Charge, 200 for Nether Strike – he doesn’t even have enough mana to cast both at Level 6! And another 150 for Avatar), he will not be using his spells for anything other than his combo. Unlike nearly every other Strength Hero in the game, who often want spam their spells for damage or farming purposes, the Spiritbreaker’s long cooldown Charge of Darkness is used almost exclusively to combo with Nether Strike. This means that his mana will actually often go to waste without Hand of Midas, because he will be sitting at full mana while waiting for the right time to do a Charge+Strike combo. His two Bracers also cover the cost of Hand of Midas should he want/need to do a Charge+Strike combo immediately after activating the Hand of Midas.
Hand of Midas is also an excellent item for the Spiritbreaker because it allows him to save his Boots of Speed to upgrade into the Boots of Travel later in the game. More on this in point #4.
2. Black King Bar is a great item for any Strength Hero who does a lot of damage but doesn’t want all that damage to cause him to be a tank/get disabled right out of the fight. It also works great in conjunction with Mask of Madness, so that his opponents cannot take full advantage of the extra damage that Mask of Madness causes when activated.
3. Plate Mail is the best way to increase the Spiritbreaker’s Effective Hit Points, since he has high Hit Points but low Armor. It can also be upgraded to Aegis of the Immortal later in the game.
4. Boots of Travel? By getting Hand of Midas, the Spiritbreaker is able to save his Boots to be upgraded to Boots of Travel, which is a great item for any Hero in the late game, but especially great for the Spiritbreaker. When combined with Mask of Madness and Empowering Haste, Boots of Travel will boost the Spiritbreaker’s movement speed all the way up 473, making it virtually impossible for anyone to escape the wrath of the late game Spiritbreaker! The extra movement speed, which is further amplified by Mask of Madness and Empowering Haste, will also add a minor amount of damage (around 5). Also, because Empowering Haste affects creeps, the Spiritbreaker is arguably the fastest late game pusher in the game, so all the more reason to have the Teleport ability!
5. If the game continues, the usual Aegis of the Immortal/Divine Rapier combo is recommended. If that won’t be possible to farm up, a Radiance and Hyperstone will suffice.
Lane Choices: The Spiritbreaker has a very sad early game, so do not attempt to solo with him. Instead, partner him up with a ranged Hero to compensate for his lack of range, preferably in a side lane. Because the Spiritbreaker cannot put much pressure on an opposing solo lane, he would prefer to be in a 2v2 lane. So, head to the Bottom lane on Sentinel and the Top lane on Scourge. If necessary, the Spiritbreaker can handle himself decently in the Middle lane, too, but avoid going there unless by not going there you are dooming an Agility Hero like Spectre or Phantom Assassin to the especially grim fate of the Middle lane.
Final Words: Any Hero with the Bash ability, to the delight of noobs and pros alike, makes for a nasty late game Hero. The Spiritbreaker is one of two Strength Heroes in the game with an innate Bash ability, and like the Slithereen Guard, this makes him one of the most feared late game Heroes out there. Charge of Darkness, combined with Boots of Travel, gives him complete control over the map, and virtually no one can stand toe to toe with him after he gets his Mask of Madness. All of that being said, DotA is a team game, so in order to reach the point in the game of the Spiritbreaker’s dominance, be sure to participate in any and all team battles; as tempting as farming away with Hand of Midas can be, the Spiritbreaker, with an Aura and multiple stuns, contributes far too much to a battle to sit back and farm gold.
Barathrum The Spirit Breaker Strategy
Early Game your not as effective as you look right now since we need items for you to kill any enemy easily. Remember, you’re a late gamer so you’re effective in late game. Buy your items and pick a lane. Pick only top or bottom lane, don’t pick the middle lane and leave it for your teammates to handle. If the lane is hard because of heavy lane controllers, better call for a lane switch or gank and make them pay late game. Last hit creeps as much as possible. Last hitting creeps will make your lane mate think you’re greedy so it’s better to share some creeps for your lane mate because this will affect your teamwork. Share some creeps as possible, don’t get greedy. This is a bit serious because some people are telling that they’re not going to help you if you don’t give him/her some creeps to eat. When you reach level 4, level 5 or level 6, your teammates will expect a gank so participate in early ganks as much as possible with your Charge of Darkness and try not to get reckless with it.
This is where you shine. Once you have an MoM and some core items then you can kill any lone heroes without breaking a sweat. And of course, don’t charge enemy heroes who have their comrades with them, since you know what will happen to you if you do that. Oh yes, just because you’re a Barathrum doesn’t mean you can own any enemy easily so try not to get reckless in charging enemies. Use it wisely.
NOTE: DON’T CHARGE HEROES WHO HAS A DISABLE OR MORE BECAUSE THEY CAN DISABLE YOU WHILE YOU’RE CHARGING HIM/HER WHICH MAKES YOUR LONE GANK NEARLY USELESS. Charge that disabler if you can but make sure he/she doesn’t see you coming. If not, Bring someone with you to ensure an easy kill while ganking a disabler.
This is important: If your ganking a lone hero alone, look at the map first if your target is separated from his/her allies and you see the target’s allies in different separate places in the map. And when the target IS alone, charge him/her and kill him/her. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, if there are no enemy heroes in the map besides your target, charge that target if you can BUT EXERCISE MORE CAUTION WHEN DOING THAT because sometimes an expert enemy team will try to lure you out by letting someone squishy from their team come out of the map. Once your fooled and you fell into their gank, you’re dead. Your life is precious so DON’T DIE IF POSSIBLE and bring a TP and teleport home after you successfully ganked and killed a target alone. Again, if you don’t want to die when your lone gank goes wrong, bring a TP or bring someone with you to ensure a kill like what I’ve said before.
ALWAYS CHARGE WHEN YOUR TEAMMATES CALL FOR A GANK. Your ganks are more better if you or your supports planted observer wards in the map like what I’ve said before too, which makes your lone/team ganks easier and being ganked lesser. Clashes occur mostly in mid game so better let someone from your team initiate first then go for the Charge.
If you have completed your Luxury Items before the game ends, no one can stop you. Like what I’ve said before, when clashes occur, better let someone from your team initiate first then go for the Charge. Finish the game ASAP before the enemy team can get their Luxury Items. Finish the game within 60 minutes.
